Hyundai's Autonomous Driving Unit Closes Gap with Industry Leaders
Hyundai's autonomous driving subsidiary, 42dot, is rapidly closing the technology gap with industry leaders Tesla and Waymo. According to CEO Park Min-woo, Hyundai's global sales of 7 million vehicles across 190 countries provide a massive data pool to train and refine its AI models.
The company plans to deploy its Nvidia-powered vehicle fleet in 2028, ahead of the rollout of its own Atria AI-powered vehicle fleet in 2029. The initial mass deployment will feature Level 2+ vehicles with Nvidia's Drive platform and Hyperion 10 sensor package, enabling faster market entry and more rapid collection of fleet data.
Hyundai aims to surpass its competitors in real-world data volumes within five years, once commercial production begins. The company is targeting the Atria AI model to reach Level 4 autonomy by scaling up from Level 2++ vehicles.
