Iamaleava Named to Maxwell Award Watch List for Second Year
UCLA's redshirt junior quarterback Nico Iamaleava has been named to the prestigious Maxwell Award watch list for the second consecutive year. The award recognizes the Collegiate Player of the Year, with former Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza being the most recent recipient. Last year, Iamaleava was one of the standout players on the team despite a less-than-ideal season, boasting a 64.4% completion percentage and throwing for 1,928 yards.
This season, however, will be a crucial test for Iamaleava as he attempts to bring UCLA back to relevance in the football world. The Big Ten Conference leads all conferences with 17 nominees on the watch list, followed by the SEC with 16 and the ACC and Big 12 with 15 each.
The semifinalists will be named on November 10th, with the final three being narrowed down to just one winner on November 24th. The winner of the Maxwell Award will be announced at the ESPN Home Depot College Football Award Show on December 10th.
