IBM has completed the acquisition of Logiq Consulting, a U.K.-based cybersecurity consultancy, to bolster its secure digital transformation capabilities and expand its footprint in highly regulated industries. The deal underscores IBM's strategy to enhance its cybersecurity portfolio amid rising demand for secure hybrid cloud and artificial intelligence (AI) solutions. Logiq Consulting specializes in cybersecurity assurance, secure systems engineering, digital transformation, and managed security services, with a strong presence in the U.K. defense sector, critical national infrastructure, and public sector. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.
The acquisition is expected to strengthen IBM Consulting's ability to deliver secure technology solutions to organizations facing complex cybersecurity threats and regulatory requirements. Logiq Consulting's expertise in Secure by Design capabilities allows organizations to integrate cybersecurity throughout the technology lifecycle, complementing IBM's existing cybersecurity transformation services and SiXworks' digital transformation expertise in defense and public-sector markets. Additionally, Logiq's DISX managed sovereign collaboration platform enables secure information exchange between government suppliers and U.K. government and defense organizations.
Integrating these capabilities with IBM's hybrid cloud, AI, and consulting expertise could create opportunities for cross-selling services and expanding relationships with security-conscious customers. The acquisition also boosts IBM's digital sovereignty offerings as governments and regulated enterprises increasingly prioritize data control, regulatory compliance, and operational resilience. IBM Consulting generated second-quarter 2026 revenues of $5.3 billion, with a 15.1% year-over-year increase in segment profit to $647 million, reflecting improving profitability.
Despite subdued revenue growth, the acquisition could help IBM capture additional opportunities in cybersecurity, application modernization, and secure AI adoption, particularly among government and defense customers. However, intense competition in cybersecurity consulting from Accenture plc, Cisco Systems, Inc., and Microsoft Corporation, along with integration challenges and prolonged public-sector procurement cycles, could limit near-term contributions. Nevertheless, Logiq Consulting's specialized capabilities and established presence in highly regulated U.K. markets position IBM to pursue incremental consulting opportunities and strengthen its competitive position over the long term.
