IBM, Lockheed Martin Unveil Joint Quantum Hub at ETH Zurich
International Business Machines Corporation (NYSE:IBM) and Lockheed Martin Corporation (NYSE:LMT) have formed a quantum innovation hub in ETH Zurich, Switzerland, through an offset agreement with armasuisse. The initiative will host Switzerland's first IBM Quantum System Two, powered by IBM's advanced Quantum Nighthawk processor.
The collaboration brings together IBM's expertise in quantum computing and AI with Lockheed Martin's focus on quantum sensing and additive manufacturing. This partnership aims to develop next-generation compute capabilities for complex industrial and national security applications.
For IBM, installing its top-tier Quantum System Two deepens its footprint in European research and enterprise infrastructure. The company has a hybrid cloud and recurring software foundation, supported by growing annual recurring revenue (ARR) and deeply embedded enterprise positions in mission-critical workloads like IBM Z.
Lockheed Martin's integration of quantum sensing and advanced manufacturing into IBM's quantum platform enhances its technology edge in high-stakes defense applications. The company has a record backlog and multi-year revenue visibility across flagship programs, providing steady cash generation for co-funding long-term research initiatives without sacrificing current operational capacity.
