IBM Resists Semiconductor Selloff Amid AI Sector Concerns

Instruments

Share

The market is drawing a clearer line between different parts of the AI sector. While semiconductor stocks like Nvidia and AMD are under pressure due to concerns over aggressive AI infrastructure spending, IBM is showing unusual relative strength.

This is because IBM gains exposure to AI not only through infrastructure, but also through WatsonX, automation, consulting, and enterprise software. As such, its investment case is less dependent on the continued expansion of frontier-model scale than that of accelerator manufacturers like Nvidia and AMD.

IBM's Storage Scale Day in New York on September 14 may reinforce its positioning at the intersection of enterprise software and AI infrastructure, but it is unlikely to be a major market catalyst. The company approaches the unfilled June gap, with the $252-255.50 area being the key resistance zone.
