IBM Stock Jumps on Self-Hosted AI Deployment Option
IBM stock jumped roughly 4% in pre-market trading after unveiling a self-hosted deployment option for its AI coding platform, IBM Bob. This move aims to attract regulated firms, such as banks and government agencies, that require strict data controls.
The self-hosted version of IBM Bob allows companies to run the agentic software development platform within their own infrastructure, including on-premises data centers, private clouds, sovereign cloud environments, and even air-gapped networks. This addresses a persistent obstacle for enterprises unable to adopt public AI coding tools due to regulatory and security constraints.
Neel Sundaresan, general manager of AI and Automation at IBM, emphasized that organizations need AI systems running on infrastructure they directly oversee, particularly when proprietary code or regulated information is involved.
