IBM Stock Tumbles on Quantum Doubts and Slowed Growth
IBM's stock price has been on a downward trend, falling to around €199-203, which is approximately 31-32 percent below its 52-week high of €292.85.
The company recently achieved two consecutive quantum computing milestones with Algorithmiq and Qedma, demonstrating 'quantum advantage' in simulations. However, this achievement has been met with skepticism from some experts, including physicist Sabine Hossenfelder, who criticized IBM's quantum communications.
IBM's growth forecast for 2026 was also trimmed to 4-5 percent, which has raised concerns among investors about the company's ability to maintain its momentum. The reduced guidance is partly due to slower core revenue growth and a focus on artificial intelligence as a key driver of future growth.
Despite these challenges, IBM has made significant strategic moves in recent months, including a $240 million deal with Together AI to build an AI inference cluster on IBM Cloud using Nvidia hardware. The company has also acquired HRL Laboratories, which adds silicon-spin qubits to its quantum roadmap.
