IBM Unveils AI-Powered Serve Quality Feature at US Open Tennis Tournament

The US Open tennis tournament has kicked off in Queens this week, marking the final Grand Slam of the year. As fans gather at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center to watch top players compete, IBM and the United States Tennis Association have announced new AI-powered features within the popular U.S. Open app and USOpen.org for this year's tournament.

According to a global survey commissioned by IBM and conducted by Morning Consult, 46% of over 20,000 sports fans across 12 countries say their digital expectations have increased in the past one to two years. The study also found that 72% of surveyed fans use sports apps as their central hub for fandom.

A key feature being introduced this year is Serve Quality, an AI-powered tool developed with IBM Bob using advanced limb-tracking technology to analyze the precise mechanics of every serve. This will be available across all 254 singles matches, providing a new context to one of the most important aspects of tennis.
