IBM Unveils Power S1112 Server with Power11 Processor

IBM has recently released the Power S1112 server based on the Power11 processor. This machine has been shipping for over a week, but pricing information is still not available from IBM.

The spec sheets for the Power S1112 were made available through COMMON, allowing users to access detailed analysis and comparison data. The primary specs for the Power S1112 include four PCI-Express slots that are not hot pluggable, unlike some previous models. This may be a surprise to prospective buyers who had grown accustomed to this feature in earlier machines.

The Power S1112 also supports running Red Hat Enterprise Linux on some of its cores, with the option to use the open-source KVM hypervisor atop IBM's PowerVM hypervisor for Power processors.
