IE Mode in Microsoft Edge Extended Until 2029

Microsoft has confirmed that Internet Explorer mode in Microsoft Edge will remain supported until at least the end of 2029. This comes after the company ended support for the IE11 desktop app on most Windows 10 consumer versions in June 2022.

The legacy rendering technology, which uses the IE11 Trident/MSHTML engine, is still necessary for some businesses that rely on old web applications tied to it. To avoid any potential disruptions, companies are advised to inventory their remaining dependencies and plan to update, replace, or rebuild them before the support window closes.

For regular users, there's no need to take action. Keeping Windows and your browser updated will suffice, as you don't need to enable or use Internet Explorer mode. Businesses should be cautious of compatibility-themed downloads and scams that may try to exploit their reliance on old technology.
