India's Fast-Growing Economy Attracts Investment Caution from JPMorgan CEO
India's economy is one of the fastest-growing in the world, but inconsistent taxation and uneven application of rules can deter investment, according to JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon. Speaking in an interview, Dimon praised India's 7.8% GDP growth rate, but warned that foreign companies often struggle to compete due to regulatory barriers.
'Foreign companies often have a hard time competing here because they're not allowed to,' Dimon said. 'Sometimes, local companies use regulations to block competition.' He added that the government should promote competition, ensure fair treatment, and strengthen governance to attract more global capital.
Dimon also expressed confidence in the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) efforts to raise dollars through foreign currency deposits to support the rupee. Additionally, he predicted that artificial intelligence will eventually deliver returns, although not necessarily in the manner or timeframe investors expect.
