A IndiGo Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner made an emergency landing at London Heathrow Airport on Tuesday evening after detecting a technical issue and smoke onboard.

The flight, which was headed to New Delhi, took off at 8:04 pm but stopped climbing at around 24,000 feet. The pilots then transmitted an emergency squawk code 7700 before turning back towards London.

According to the airline, a technical issue was detected shortly after take-off on IndiGo flight 6E 04 operating from London to New Delhi on September 22nd. The cockpit crew decided to return to Heathrow and landed the aircraft safely at 9:23 pm.

The safety of customers, crew, and aircraft remains the top priority for IndiGo. The airline is currently undergoing maintenance checks and will resume operations after securing necessary clearances.
