Industrial Laser Pioneer Melvin 'Glynn' Miller Passes Away at 97
Melvin 'Glynn' Miller, a pioneer in industrial lasers and a devoted family man, passed away on September 8, 2026. Born on August 22, 1929, in Palatka, Clay County, Arkansas, Glynn grew up in rural Missouri during the 1930s and 40s. He even drove the school bus while still in grade school.
Afther graduating high school, Glynn enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he served on a submarine stationed at Naval Station Norfolk, VA. After his service ended, he settled in New England and worked for various tech companies, including IBM in central NY and United Technologies' Research Center in East Hartford.
Glynn's easy-going nature made him many friends, and he loved singing and writing country-western music. He was also a community leader, having served as President of the CT Country Music Association and the Mountain Laurel Ski Club.
