Advisory Solutions Group LLC has acquired a new stake in Amazon.com, Inc. (AMZN), purchasing 6,726 shares valued at approximately $1.6 million during the second quarter. This move is part of a broader trend among institutional investors, with several others also increasing their positions in the e-commerce giant. Trust Asset Management LLC, for instance, grew its stake by 3.3%, adding 3,414 shares worth $26,000. Other new investors include TOP Private Wealth LLC, Bard Associates Inc., Longfellow Investment Management Co. LLC, and Lifetime Wealth Management P.C., all of which made significant investments in Amazon during the second quarter.

The increased institutional interest coincides with positive sentiment surrounding Amazon's business operations. Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced a $1 billion investment over five years in communities hosting its U.S. data centers, focusing on job training, education, and infrastructure. This initiative aims to mitigate resistance to new facilities and support AI workloads. Additionally, AWS's rapid expansion, a $1 billion agreement with Synopsys, and long-term commitments from Anthropic worth roughly $110 billion have bolstered investor confidence. Analysts from Goldman Sachs and New Street have also expressed optimism, citing AWS growth, generative AI exposure, and potential improvements in retail margins.

Despite the positive outlook, there are concerns about profitability and regulatory risks. Analysts question the impact of unrealized investment gains on AWS earnings and the potential pressure on free cash flow due to surging AI capital expenditures. Amazon is also exploring an $8 billion sale-and-leaseback of Nvidia AI chips, which could make its balance sheet more asset-light but highlights the scale of its AI infrastructure costs. Regulatory challenges, including tougher EU cloud rules and warehouse labor actions, add to the uncertainty.

Analysts have recently adjusted their price targets for Amazon. Rosenblatt Securities raised its target to $360, JPMorgan Chase & Co. to $365, Bank of America to $320, Monness Crespi & Hardt to $330, and Truist Financial to $350. The consensus rating among 56 analysts is a "Moderate Buy" with an average target price of $321.63. However, insider sales have been noted, with SVP David Zapolsky and VP Shelley Reynolds reducing their stakes in recent transactions.
