Institutional Investors Flock to American Express Amid Strong Operating Trends
American Express Company (AXP) has caught the attention of investors and analysts alike. In the second quarter, HBK Sorce Advisory LLC acquired a new stake in AXP, buying 10,307 shares valued at approximately $3.60 million.
This is not an isolated instance; several other institutional investors have also been increasing their stakes in American Express. Evolution Wealth Management Inc., for example, grew its stake in AXP by 6,600% in the fourth quarter, now owning 67 shares valued at $25,000.
Despite these bullish moves, some analysts remain cautious. UBS Group lowered its target price on AXP from $386 to $384 and assigned a 'neutral' rating to the stock.
The payment services company has reported strong operating trends in recent quarters, with revenue growth of 10% year-over-year. American Express also issued Series E preferred shares and announced full redemption of Series D preferred shares, which may improve funding flexibility but adds preferred financing obligations.
