Iowa Student Misses Million-Dollar Field Goal, Earns Title of Worst Kicker Ever
Pat McAfee's popular College GameDay field goal contest has had its share of winners in the past, but this week's attempt by an Iowa student was anything but successful. Finley Banfig, a college freshman and Hawkeyes fan, took on the challenge and attempted to kick a field goal worth $1 million.
Unfortunately for Banfig, her first kick barely made it out of the end zone, leaving former NFL punter Pat McAfee and co-host Kirk Herbstreit stunned. Even after being given a second chance, Banfig's follow-up attempt still missed the mark, earning her the unfortunate title of worst kicker in College GameDay history.
The contest has been running for three seasons, with McAfee himself funding over $6 million in prize and charity money. This week's edition saw him partnered with Home Depot, which is matching his contributions. Despite Banfig's poor attempt, she did manage to walk away with some consolation - former Iowa tight end Dallas Clark offered her a helping hand and launched a 30-yard pass through the field goal uprights, earning her $150,000 for herself and another $150,000 for the Iowa Children's Hospital.
