Iraq PM Seeks Long-Term Economic Ties with Washington Amid Security Shift
Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Falih al-Zaidi is set to visit the United States next week, where he will meet with President Donald Trump and address the UN General Assembly. The trip comes as Baghdad aims to shift its relationship with Washington from a focus on security cooperation to long-term economic collaboration.
During his first official visit to the US two months ago, al-Zaidi advocated for more investment in Iraq and met with leaders from key American corporations. The agreements announced during that visit were worth over $60 billion and included companies such as Chevron, ConocoPhillips, GE Vernova, Google, JPMorgan Chase, and PepsiCo.
Al-Zaidi will also attend an economic conference hosted by the US Chamber of Commerce. This trip marks a significant moment for Iraqi sovereignty, with the US-led coalition operation in Iraq set to conclude on September 30.
