James Walla Sims II Remembered for Loyalty and Love
James Walla Sims II, affectionately known as Jim, passed away on October 5, 2026, surrounded by his family and friends. Born on June 6, 1949, Jim was a devoted Marine Corps veteran who served from 1967 to 1969, providing crucial support duties during a time of need. After his military service, he worked on big rigs before settling in Perry, where he spent many years at Procter & Gamble and Buckeye before retiring in 2016.
Jim's retirement allowed him to fully embrace his role as a loving grandfather to his three grandchildren, whom he cherished deeply. His life was marked by a blend of passion and routine, particularly his love for NASCAR racing and FSU sports. His guilty pleasure, however, was watching soap operas, especially The Young and the Restless, which dictated his household schedule.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James and Opal Sims, his first love Joan (Bowden) Sims, and several other family members. He is survived by his best friend of 30 years, Lisa Sims, his children Amber Cannon and Jesika Cannon (Donnie), his grandchildren Hannah Slaughter, Payton Slaughter, Aleesa Blake Slaughter, and Lily Cook, as well as numerous other relatives and his loyal dog, Bambi Sims.
His family expressed their deepest gratitude to Big Bend Hospice and the DMH team for their compassionate care during his final journey. Jim's life was defined by his loyalty, humor, and deep love for his family. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
