Jane Street Slumps with $15bn Loss Amid US AI Stock Market Turmoil
Jane Street, a secretive trading firm, disclosed a $15bn loss in July due to market volatility. The loss is tied to a sharp reversal in U.S. AI stocks that month.
The firm's third-quarter results were impacted by the loss, and it reduced the number of entities receiving its financial disclosures. Jane Street had been generating record results before the July drawdown.
The loss also comes as the company shifts roughly $11bn of public debt to private lenders through a $14.6bn deal led by JPMorgan. This new financing structure reduces the number of parties that receive regular financial disclosures from Jane Street.
