JPMorgan Chase Drops $750 Billion on US Housing Market
JPMorgan Chase is making headlines with its massive investment in the nation's housing supply. The commercial bank announced it will spend $750 billion to help address the country's affordable housing crisis.
This news has sparked hope for those struggling to own a home, like Timothy Bontrager. 'It's so expensive,' he said. 'I think the time horizon for me to own a house is a lot longer in 2026 than it was in the past.'
The investment aims to help policymakers and community partners address housing affordability issues through streamlined zoning, building codes, permitting, expanded tax credits, and public-private partnerships.
According to Dejan Eskic, senior research fellow at the Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute, nine out of 10 renters are priced out of the median-priced home in Utah's market. He believes JPMorgan Chase's investment could be beneficial, but noted that 'nothing's gonna happen without local input and zoning and land availability.'
