JPMorgan Picks American Express, Thermo Fisher, and Liberty Energy for October
JPMorgan Chase has unveiled its October investment picks, highlighting a diverse selection of stocks across value, growth, dividend yield, and short-selling strategies. The latest additions include American Express (AXP), Thermo Fisher Scientific (TMO), and Liberty Energy (LBRT), reflecting a strategic shift toward broader market diversification.
September saw mixed performance across major indices, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average falling 4.3%, the S&P 500 slipping 0.5%, and the Nasdaq Composite rising 1.9%. Despite this volatility, JPMorgan's updated list spans multiple sectors, including financials, life sciences, and energy, aiming to balance risk and reward in a fluctuating market.
American Express was added to the value category, despite an 18% year-to-date decline in its shares. JPMorgan analyst Richard Shane emphasized the company's strong fundamentals, noting its disciplined capital return through dividends and buybacks. Thermo Fisher Scientific and Liberty Energy were selected for their growth potential, with Thermo Fisher benefiting from a joint venture with Mayo Clinic and Liberty Energy capitalizing on the AI data center boom.
JPMorgan also advised against concentrating solely on semiconductor and AI themes, recommending diversification into sectors favorable for rotation. The bank's updated list includes five new stocks, though only three were disclosed. Institutional investors often refer to such recommendations, but individual investors should also review corporate fundamentals and valuations.
