JPMorgan Taps Mark O'Donovan as Global Head of HR Amid AI-Driven Workforce Transformation
JPMorgan Chase has appointed Mark O'Donovan as its new global head of Human Resources, succeeding Robin Leopold. The appointment marks a significant leadership transition at the bank, which is navigating workforce transformation driven by artificial intelligence and evolving operating models.
O'Donovan, a 30-year JPMorgan veteran, will take over the role in January. He has held several senior positions within the company, including CEO of Chase Auto and Chief Financial Officer of the Commercial & Investment Bank. O'Donovan also played a key role in integrating First Republic Bank into JPMorgan following its acquisition in 2023.
The bank is accelerating the use of artificial intelligence across its operations, which has led to workforce redeployment plans linked to automation and AI adoption. According to statements made by CEO Jamie Dimon, the bank has implemented measures such as reducing operations staff by 4% over the past year and hiring more AI specialists.
Leopold will retire during the first quarter of 2027 after leading JPMorgan's human resources function since 2018. O'Donovan will inherit responsibility for managing workforce engagement, talent development, and organisational culture while implementing large-scale transformation initiatives.
