Karnataka and HCCB Partner on Water Conservation Initiative at Mamadapur Lake
Karnataka's Minister for Large and Medium Industries and Infrastructure Development, Shri Dr. M. B. Patil, dedicated a beautified community infrastructure at Mamadapur Lake in Vijayapura district.
The initiative was undertaken in partnership with Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages under its flagship community partnership programme, Project SHINE, in collaboration with implementation partner S M Sehgal Foundation.
Mamadapur Lake is among Karnataka's largest and oldest living heritage water bodies, constructed during the reign of the Adil Shahi Sultans in the 16th century. The initiative seeks to strengthen the lake's role as a shared community asset while preserving its historical and environmental significance.
Improvements have been made to public infrastructure, safety, and accessibility around the water body, including a public park, dedicated walking pathways, high-mast solar lighting, designated access points, and community seating areas. Native saplings supported by drip irrigation have also been planted to enhance green cover and support the local ecosystem.
