Kenyan Families Receive Record Compensation for 737 MAX Crash Victims

Nearly seven years have passed since the tragic crash of Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302, which resulted in the loss of all 157 people on board. The families of the 32 Kenyan victims are now set to receive a combined $87.3 million in compensation tied to Boeing's settlements with the US Department of Justice.

The allocation totals $87,343,352.60, averaging roughly $2.73 million per victim. This figure is not a single fresh payout but rather the sum of two separate government-established compensation funds. The first fund, created under Boeing's 2021 Deferred Prosecution Agreement with the US Justice Department, provided approximately $1.45 million per victim.

The second fund, established in May 2025 as part of a non-prosecution agreement after Boeing was found to have violated the terms of its earlier deal, allocated an estimated $1.285 million per victim. This newer fund alone accounts for about $41.1 million of the Kenyan families' total allocation.
