'Kingdom Hearts 4' Trailer Revealed, Featuring 'Coco' World and Maleficent
Disney and Square Enix previewed 'Kingdom Hearts 4', set to release in 2027, at the D23 entertainment showcase. The franchise is celebrating its upcoming 25th anniversary and has grossed over $1 billion at retail for Disney.
The game follows Sora after the events of the third installment as he becomes trapped in Quadratum, a fictional version of Shibuya, Tokyo. A four-minute trailer was shown featuring a new world based on Pixar's 'Coco', expanding on previously revealed footage.
Tetsuya Nomura, creator of the franchise, discussed including Disney titles with strong gameplay synergies and chose 'Coco' for its potential to achieve this. The game will also feature a significant role for Maleficent from 'Sleeping Beauty'. Paper Mickey Mouse, a new world where Mickey becomes a playable character in a storybook setting, was also showcased.
