KLM Boeing 777 Returns to Amsterdam After Power Bank Catches Fire in Cabin

A KLM Boeing 777-300ER aircraft made an unexpected return to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport on September 17 after a power bank caught fire in the cabin while flying over the Atlantic Ocean. The plane, registered PH-BVP, had departed Amsterdam at 13:21 local time bound for Curaçao.

After several hours, the cabin crew managed to extinguish the fire without reporting any injuries. However, the captain subsequently decided to return to Schiphol as a precautionary measure.

The aircraft landed back in Amsterdam after more than five hours in the air. Dutch media has reported that the power bank belonged to former KLM president and CEO Camiel Eurlings, but this information has not been confirmed by the airline.

KLM has started an investigation into the incident, citing its own rules regarding power banks on board. According to these regulations, passengers are allowed to carry a maximum of two power banks, which must be kept with them rather than in overhead compartments.
