Korean Air Lands $44.8 Billion Deal for 103 Next-Gen Boeing Jets
Korean Air has finalized its massive aircraft and engine procurement plan worth $44.8 billion, which was first announced in the United States last year. The deal includes the purchase of 103 next-generation Boeing jets for $36.2 billion and spare engines and maintenance services from GE Aerospace and CFM International valued at approximately $8.6 billion.
The aircraft order consists of 20 777-9s, 25 787-10s, 50 737-10s, and 8 777-8F freighters, with the new aircraft expected to improve fuel efficiency and reduce carbon emissions. Korean Air plans to deploy the new jets to expand capacity and enhance service quality.
The agreement marks a significant milestone in the integration of Korean Air and Asiana Airlines, as well as a proactive move by the carrier to address global aircraft supply delays since the pandemic. The deal was realized through close communication and support from both the South Korean and U.S. governments, state-backed financial institutions, and partner companies.
