Lambda Secures $1 Billion in Debt to Leverage Nvidia GPUs for Microsoft Partnership
Lambda, an AI cloud services provider backed by Nvidia, has secured $1 billion in short-term debt to purchase Nvidia GPUs for lease to Microsoft. The funds will be used to acquire the graphics processing units (GPUs) and then rent out the computing power to the tech giant under a compute leasing partnership.
The transaction was arranged by JPMorgan Chase and sold to private investors, reflecting the growing demand for AI infrastructure in the cloud computing sector. Lambda plans to deploy the chips quickly and generate lease revenue rapidly, using operating cash flow to repay the loan.
This move highlights how major tech companies are supplementing GPU supply through third-party AI cloud providers, such as Lambda, instead of building their own data centers. This model allows for faster deployment timelines and greater flexibility in compute capacity rollout.
