A lawsuit has been filed against Anthropic, OpenAI, SpaceXAI, and Google, alleging that they made an illegal agreement to slow down their respective AI development.

The plaintiffs argue that the coordination among these leading AI companies violated antitrust laws, reducing the value consumers get from paid AI subscriptions.

The alleged agreement began to take shape in July 2026, when high-ranking employees from several labs signed a statement acknowledging 'intense competitive pressure' not to unilaterally slow development.

Anthropics CEO Dario Amodei published an essay on September 12, urging industrywide cooperation on decelerating advancements for enhanced safety measures. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and others publicly responded in agreement, sparking the lawsuit's claims of an illegal deal.
