Southwest Trims Nine Routes From BWI Amid Network Adjustments

Southwest Airlines has canceled nine routes from Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI), according to data from Cirium. The cuts include domestic and international flights, with six of the affected routes being domestic.

The first route to be shelved was to Oakland San Francisco Bay Airport (OAK) in northern California, which ceased operations in March 2025. This was followed by a cut to Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD) in November 2025, with Southwest opting for nearby Midway International Airport (MDW) instead.

In 2026, seven more routes were removed from the BWI network, including flights to Los Cabos International Airport (SJD) in Mexico. The sole international cut affected this route, which last operated in April and will be taken over by United Airlines from nearby Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) in October.

Southwest remains the largest airline at BWI, with almost 12 times as many flights as second-placed Delta Air Lines. The airline operates a range of aircraft types from the airport, including the Boeing 737 MAX 8, 737-700, and 737-800.
