Lawsuit Targets Anthropic, OpenAI, SpaceXAI, and Google Over Alleged AI Development Pact
A new lawsuit has been filed against leading AI companies Anthropic, OpenAI, SpaceXAI, and Google, alleging they made an illegal agreement to slow down their respective AI development.
The complaint was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California on Friday, September 12, 2026, and argues that the companies violated antitrust laws by coordinating slowdown efforts.
The plaintiffs do not object to individual companies deciding to slow their progress, but claim that agreeing to a collective restraint is against the law.
Nick Rowley, the lead attorney for the plaintiffs, stated, 'AI will quickly spin out of human control and could kill us all if we allow AI safety and protocol ... to be controlled by private self-serving agreements between the world's most powerful 'for profit' technology companies.'
