Lawsuit Targets Top AI Firms for Alleged Illegal Agreement to Slow Down Development

A new lawsuit has been filed in the US District Court for the Northern District of California against Anthropic, OpenAI, SpaceXAI, and Google, alleging that they made an illegal agreement to slow down their respective AI development.

The lawsuit claims that the coordination among these leading AI companies had an anti-competitive effect on consumers and reduced the value they get from paid AI subscriptions.

The alleged agreement came after Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei published an essay on September 12, urging industrywide cooperation to decelerate advancements in favor of enhanced safety measures.

The other CEOs, including OpenAI's Sam Altman and SpaceXAI's Elon Musk, publicly responded to Amodei's proposals in agreement, which the plaintiffs argue is a clear indication of an illegal deal.
