Long-Time Community Leader Stephen Allan Rich Passes Away at 84
Stephen Allan Rich, a long-time resident of Hillsborough, North Carolina, passed away on August 19th at the age of 84. He had been battling health issues for some time and died peacefully at home.
A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Stephen was known for his curiosity, listening skills, and ability to make people feel good about themselves.
He was a collector of memorabilia, with UNC and Coca-Cola items being among his favorites. However, his eclectic interests also included 'taste de vin' from Paris, stamps, walking canes, and cast-iron flowerpot door stops.
Stephen was actively involved in the Chapel Hill community, serving on the boards of Hillel, Tau Epsilon Phi, NC Botanical Garden, Preservation Chapel Hill, and the UNC Center for Public Service. He also started a fund for Jewish Studies at Wilson Library UNC-Chapel Hill.
In his 30-year career with The Coca-Cola Company, Stephen took immense pride in his work. After retiring at age 56, he and his wife Sandra spent their time traveling, volunteering, and enjoying activities related to the University of North Carolina.
