LOT Lands Two Used Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners from Virgin Atlantic
LOT Polish Airlines has secured two used Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners from Virgin Atlantic, set to join its fleet in the first half of 2027. The acquisition is part of LOT's plan to expand its long-haul operations ahead of the summer peak.
The aircraft will be refreshed with new interiors before entering service, but it remains unclear whether they will retain their original premium-heavy layout or undergo a more substantial cabin reconfiguration to match LOT's standards.
Virgin Atlantic is undergoing a fleet refurbishment plan, which includes retaining 14 of its remaining 17 787-9s and redesigning their cabins from 2028. The airline plans to increase the number of Upper Class and Premium seats, while also introducing Airbus A330-900neos and A350-1000s.
The sale of two Dreamliners to LOT accounts for part of Virgin Atlantic's fleet reduction, which will see its 787-9 numbers decrease from 17 to 14 by early 2028. The exact fate of the third departing aircraft remains unknown.
