Lowry Matches Course Record in Stunning Irish Open Comeback
Shane Lowry's impressive second round at the Amgen Irish Open catapulted him into contention, matching the course record and putting him just two strokes shy of golf's magic number.
The 39-year-old former champion carded a blistering eight-under-par 62 on Friday, with nine birdies and only one bogey. He made three consecutive birdies from the third hole before adding another trio in a row at the seventh, eighth, and ninth.
Lowry was close to achieving the elusive score of 59 but faltered at the 13th hole when he three-putted from around 20 feet for his only bogey. He responded with a birdie at the 15th before closing with three pars.
