Lufthansa Doubles Down on Boeing MAX with 20 New Aircraft Orders

Lufthansa Group has made significant strides in its fleet modernization efforts by converting options into firm orders for 20 Boeing 737 MAX 10 aircraft. This move brings the group's total MAX commitments to 60, with deliveries set to begin in the early 2030s.

The order is a direct result of a 2023 agreement that included 40 firm MAX 8s and 60 options. Lufthansa exercised the first 20 options, retaining 40 more for future use. The Boeing 737 MAX 10 offers higher seating density compared to the MAX 8, making it an attractive option for high-demand European routes.

With fuel savings of roughly 30% expected, the new aircraft will help reduce costs while increasing capacity. This purchase complements the group's broader renewal plans, which include 10 A350-900s and 10 787-9s ordered earlier this year. By 2035, Lufthansa aims to receive over 250 new planes.
