Lufthansa Group has made a significant move in its fleet modernization programme by exercising purchase options for 20 Boeing 737 MAX 10 aircraft. This decision brings the total firm order for the 737 MAX family to 60 aircraft.

The MAX 10s will gradually replace older Airbus A320-family aircraft across the group, providing greater seating capacity and reducing fuel consumption by around 30%. The larger model is also expected to reduce unit costs by approximately 20% compared to the aircraft it replaces.

Lufthansa says deliveries of the newly ordered MAX 10s will begin in the early 2030s. The order has a list value of about $3.4 billion, and Lufthansa Group expects to receive more than 250 new aircraft by 2035 as it invests in a younger, more efficient fleet.
