Caterpillar dealer Barloworld Zambia has delivered a Cat 995 wheel loader to Barrick's Lumwana copper mine in Zambia. The Caterpillar ultraclass 995, described as the largest wheel loader in the product line, offers improved efficiency and production compared to its predecessor, the 994K.

The 995 features a bucket capacity of up to 43.6 m3 and utilises a Cat 3516E engine with gross power of 1,394 kW. It boasts 21% higher efficiency and 24% more production than the 994K in equal operating mode, thanks to increased payload and hydraulic force.

Lumwana is expanding its operations with the Super Pit Expansion Project, aiming to increase copper production from 140,000 t/y to 240,000 t/y by 2028. The project involves upgrading existing equipment and investing in new ultra-class fleet, including the Cat 995 wheel loader, to drive higher production, efficiency, and lower unit costs.
