US Mini Excavator Sales Plummet Amid Affordability Concerns

New financed mini excavator sales in the U.S. plummeted by 7.7% year-over-year from June 1, 2025 to May 31, 2026, with over 32,500 units sold, according to Fusable's EDA equipment finance data.

Caterpillar narrowly overtook Kubota as the top seller of new financed mini excavators during the period, with a market share of 23.3% and 7,588 units sold.

The most popular models among buyers were the Kubota KX040-5, Cat 305 CR, and Deere 35 P-Tier, with the Kubota KX040-5 being a standout due to its industry-leading features and improved hydraulics.

Used financed mini excavator sales, on the other hand, saw a significant increase of 13.1% during the same period, with over 12,725 units sold.

Cat held onto the top spot for used financed mini excavators, with a market share of 21.8%, followed closely by Bobcat and Kubota.
