M5 Chip Surprisingly Holds Own Against Nvidia's Mobile GPUs
Recent tests have pitted Apple's M5 chip against some of Nvidia's most powerful mobile GPUs, and surprisingly, it holds its own. The base M5 chip lags behind the RTX 4060 for laptops in games like 'Resident Evil Village' and 'Baldur's Gate 3', but when it comes to more demanding titles like 'Cyberpunk 2077', it can deliver performance close to that of the RTX 5070 for laptops.
The gap in performance between the original M5 and its successors, M5 Pro and M5 Max, is significant. The M5 Max is said to be on par with the RTX 5070 for laptops, with Notebookcheck's tests showing it can deliver between 91 and 103 FPS in 'Cyberpunk 2077' on Ultra graphics settings.
However, PC gamers should not get too excited just yet. The M5 chip is still limited by its compatibility with Windows titles. While some games like 'Forza Horizon 4' and 'Forza Horizon 5' run smoothly on the M5, others may not be playable due to processor-architecture conflicts or anti-cheat software issues.
