Malaysia Airlines Nears Deal for 10 Boeing Dreamliners

Malaysia Airlines is close to finalizing an order for 10 Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners, sources told Bloomberg News. The deal would mark a significant shift in the airline's fleet composition, replacing older Airbus jets. According to industry analysts, a 10-plane order for 787-10 Dreamliners would cost between $3.4-$3.5 billion.

The expedited delivery date of 2031 is cited as one of the reasons Boeing is poised to secure the deal. GE Aviation's offer of better terms on engines for the 787-10 Dreamliners, compared to Rolls-Royce Holdings, also contributed to Boeing's advantage. Malaysia Airlines' parent group, Malaysian Aviation Group, is seeking to replace seven Airbus A350s that it has been leasing.

The airline operates a combined fleet of 92 airliners, with 56 being narrow-body Boeing 737s and the rest comprised of Airbus jets. This order would mark a significant move towards increasing its presence in the wide-body market.
