Luigi Mangione is set to appear in court for a hearing ahead of his trial next month. The 28-year-old man is accused of shooting and killing Brian Thompson, the CEO of UnitedHealthcare, on a Manhattan sidewalk in December 2024.

The killing sparked widespread condemnation from public officials but also became a symbol of frustration with health insurance industry practices. Mangione has pleaded not guilty to murder, weapons, and forgery charges brought by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.

Prosecutors claim they have ample evidence to prove Mangione's guilt, including hundreds of hours of surveillance video, fingerprints, DNA, a cellphone, and a notebook with writings allegedly expressing hatred towards insurers. His lawyers may argue that he suffered an extreme mental health breakdown, which led to the shooting.
