A high-profile case is expected to come to a close on Friday as Luigi Mangione, accused of murdering a healthcare executive, will likely plead guilty. The plea hearing was scheduled after prosecutors and defense lawyers jointly requested it, with the US District Judge Margaret Garnett setting the date.

The charges against Mangione relate to the fatal shooting of Brian Thompson, a UnitedHealth Group Inc. executive. According to a person familiar with the matter, prosecutors will recommend that Mangione serve life in prison as part of the plea deal.

While the deal is expected to go through, there's still a chance it could fall apart, with the person noting that talks are private and anything can happen until Friday's hearing.
