Marist University, IBM Launch AI Innovation Incubator with z17 Mainframe
Marist University and IBM have launched an AI innovation incubator that will provide computing power for research projects across various academic disciplines. The partnership between the two entities has existed for over 50 years, with the new incubator marking an expansion of their collaboration. The IBM z17 mainframe, provided by IBM, will enable students and faculty to develop and test applications using enterprise technology designed for large organizations.
The innovation incubator has identified three initial projects that will utilize AI research. These include synthetic marketing campaigns operated by AI agent teams, quantum optimization algorithms used to analyze real-time financial data, and the exploration of how AI can improve polling methodologies and survey design. The collaboration extends beyond computer science, involving fields such as political science, communication, marketing, business, environmental science, and library sciences.
Marist President Kevin Weinman emphasized that the university believes in a future where higher education intersects with industry engagement. Tina Tarquinio, Chief Product Officer for IBM Z and LinuxONE, highlighted the importance of academic institutions in the IBM Z ecosystem.
