Marvell Gains Edge Over Broadcom in Custom AI Chip Market
Google's recent partnership with Marvell Technology has strengthened the AI networking chipmaker's position in the rapidly expanding AI-chip market. The deal allows Marvell to supply Google with tensor processing units, including accelerators, storage, and network interface controllers.
The partnership also gives Marvell a much larger role in the custom AI silicon market, which is expected to grow significantly. Marvell's shares jumped over 9% after the announcement, while Broadcom's fell roughly 5%.
Broadcom remains heavily dependent on AI-related spending and has a relatively concentrated customer base, making it vulnerable to a slowdown in AI infrastructure investment or weaker demand from hyperscalers.
