Mary Poppins TV Series Takes Flight: New Adaptation Based on Original Books
A live-action Mary Poppins TV series is in development, based on the original books by P.L. Travers.
The show will be produced by Tom Winchester's indie studio, Pure Fiction Television, which has backing from See-Saw Films and U.K. talent agency Hamilton Hodell.
Winchester is developing the series on behalf of the P.L. Travers estate, and while Disney does not necessarily need to be involved due to rights issues, there are early talks to bring them on board given their association with the character.
The books offer a different portrayal of Mary Poppins, depicting her as stricter and more vain compared to Julie Andrews' iconic performance in the 1964 film. The estate is working to ensure that the TV series stays true to the original novels.
