Maryland Takes Quantum Leap with New Microsoft Research Center
The University of Maryland has opened the Microsoft Quantum Research Center in College Park, a 15,000-square-foot facility that will aid Microsoft in developing new quantum technology. The center is part of the 'Capital of Quantum' initiative, which aims to bring $1 billion worth of investments to the state over five years.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony was attended by UMD President Darryll J. Pines and Governor Wes Moore, who emphasized the potential of quantum technology to transform various sectors, including national security and healthcare. The facility will serve as a hub for researchers and students alike, with training space for UMD students and room for quantum research organizations.
Microsoft's partnership with Maryland is designed to be adaptable, allowing for new ways of collaboration as technology continues to evolve. The opening of the Quantum Research Center coincides with this year's Quantum World Congress, which is currently being held in College Park.
