McBarge Sinks Again, This Time for Good
A floating McDonald's restaurant, dubbed the McBarge, was built in 1986 for Vancouver's Expo '86. The 187-foot barge served food to fairgoers for six months and was meant to relocate after the expo ended.
However, after the event, the McBarge was left abandoned until 1991, when it was towed to Burrard Inlet and anchored beside an oil refinery. Over the years, ownership changed hands, with various plans proposed but never realized, including a stint as a museum and homeless shelter.
In 2015, the McBarge was towed again to Maple Ridge, British Columbia, where it continued to rust until it capsized and partially sank into the Fraser River in March 2025.
