McDonald's $8.5 Billion Growth Plan Sparks Investor Skepticism
McDonald's announced its 10-year growth plan, called NEXT, to drive market share gains and efficiency. The company plans to invest $8.5 billion over the next decade to improve growth and profitability.
The strategy includes three major goals: capturing 1.5 percentage points of market share gains in chicken and beverage categories while maintaining leadership in beef; expanding operating margin to the low-to-mid 50% range by 2030; and increasing gross restaurant-level efficiency by 250 basis points, or about $100,000 in annual cash flow for the average U.S. restaurant.
Investors are skeptical of the plan's price tag, with shares closing down 4.8% after the announcement. However, management believes that the investments will generate a four-year payback period for franchisees and improve customer and crew experiences.
