McDonald's Slumps to 1-Year Low as Investors Await Chicago Strategy Day
McDonald's Corp. shares fell to near a one-year low on September 4, trading at around $256.87 in early afternoon New York trading, down $2.76 or about 1.1 percent from Wednesday's close.
The stock has been under pressure since reaching its spring peak of $341.75 in March, falling roughly one-fifth to the current level.
The decline was not tied to a single announcement and is part of a months-long re-rating of McDonald's as a defensive holding on Wall Street.
U.S. customers are visiting less often, with value deals failing to restore traffic this year, unlike in 2025.
McDonald's reported net income of $2.36 billion for the quarter ended June 30, up from $2.25 billion a year earlier, but U.S. comparable sales rose only 0.8 percent after a 2.5 percent gain in 2023.
The company is planning to unveil more financial detail at its investor day in Chicago on September 23.
